The three-day event, set to take place from October 17 to 19, promises to showcase a diverse range of American and Portuguese independent films, television series, podcasts, and music.

Co-founded by Robert De Niro and Jane Rosenthal, Tribeca Festival Lisboa will feature Portuguese premieres of critically acclaimed films like “Anora” (winner of the Palme d’Or at Cannes) and “Ezra” (starring Robert De Niro). The festival will also highlight top winners from the 2024 Tribeca Festival, including Nicholas Colia’s “Griffin in Summer” and Sean Baker’s “Anora.”

The event will spotlight a mix of American and Portuguese talent, with a special screening of the highly anticipated Portuguese series “Azul,” a world premiere of “Unicorn,” and live recordings of popular podcasts like “Geração 70” and “Coisa Que Não Edifica Nem Destrói.”

“Twenty-two years ago, we founded the Tribeca Festival to help revitalize lower Manhattan through the power of film, art, and storytelling,” said De Niro in a press statement. “This mission remains our North Star. It means a great deal to us to bring this same spirit to Lisbon – a city bursting with renewed cultural and economic promise.”

Tribeca Festival Lisboa will also feature a robust panel series, with discussions on topics ranging from the impact of AI on filmmaking to the future of streaming and the importance of representation in media. Renowned panelists include De Niro, Whoopi Goldberg, Patty Jenkins, Griffin Dunne, and Chazz Palminteri.

“For more than two decades, Tribeca has passionately championed independent filmmakers and emerging talent from across the globe,” said Rosenthal. “We’re proud to continue the tradition this fall, bringing the best of American independent cinema to Portugal, while also partnering with the City of Lisbon and the team at Grupo Impresa to showcase the country’s rising talent.”

Lisbon Mayor Carlos Moedas expressed enthusiasm for the festival, emphasizing Lisbon’s recent recognition as the most innovative city in Europe. “By hosting the first European edition of the Tribeca Festival, we have solidified our position as the go-to destination in Europe for lovers of culture, art, and innovation,” said Moedas.

The Tribeca Festival Lisboa is presented by Tribeca Enterprises, Portuguese broadcast company SIC, its streaming platform OPTO, and the City of Lisbon.
