Thu Sep 12 11:52:38 UTC 2024: ## Earthquake Shakes North India and Pakistan, Tremors Felt in Delhi

**New Delhi, September 11, 2024:** A moderate earthquake with a magnitude of 5.8 struck Pakistan on Wednesday, sending tremors across North India and shaking major cities in Pakistan. The epicenter was located near the Dera Ghazi Khan region in Punjab, at a depth of 10 kilometers.

Tremors were felt in Delhi, as well as in several states including Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, Haryana, Punjab, and Jammu and Kashmir. Afghanistan also experienced shaking. In Pakistan, cities like Islamabad, Lahore, Multan, Faisalabad, and several others reported strong tremors.

While the earthquake caused a noticeable jolt across the region, no reports of casualties or property damage have been reported so far. This marks the second time in two weeks that Delhi and its surrounding areas have felt tremors. On August 29, an earthquake of magnitude 5.7 struck Afghanistan.

Videos circulating on social media show objects swaying during the tremors, which lasted for a few seconds. The tremors were particularly noticeable in Delhi NCR and Bikaner, Rajasthan.

Delhi’s proximity to the Himalayas puts the city in an active seismic zone, classified as Zone IV. This makes it vulnerable to earthquakes.
