Veteran Australian batsman Steve Smith has lauded Virat Kohli’s competitive spirit, comparing it to the fierce mentality often associated with Australian cricket. In a video posted on ‘X’ by Star Sports, Smith described Kohli as “probably the most Australian of the Indian players” due to his relentless approach to the game.

“The way he gets into a battle, the way he gets into the challenge and tries to get on top of the opposition,” Smith said, recognizing Kohli’s similar drive to dominate the game.

The two cricketing titans will renew their rivalry in the upcoming Border-Gavaskar Trophy, beginning on November 22nd. The five-match Test series will be held in Perth, Adelaide (pink-ball game), Brisbane, Melbourne, and Sydney, with India aiming to defend their title after winning the last two editions in Australia.

Despite their fierce on-field battles, Smith revealed that he and Kohli maintain a respectful relationship off the field. “We get on quite well, share messages every now and then,” Smith shared, expressing excitement about facing his Indian counterpart in the upcoming series.

“There’s no real, you know, I need to beat him or anything like that,” he clarified, highlighting his focus on achieving success for his team. “It’s just about going out and playing and trying to score as many runs as I can and helping Australia have success and that’s what it’s all about,” Smith concluded.
