Wed Sep 11 17:14:41 UTC 2024: ## Sikh Community Protests Outside Rahul Gandhi’s Residence, Demanding Apology for US Remarks

New Delhi – Members of the Sikh community staged a protest outside the residence of Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on [date], demanding an apology for his remarks about the community made during a speech in the United States. The protest, organized by the Sikh Prakoshth of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Delhi, saw participants marching from Vigyan Bhawan towards Gandhi’s residence at 10 Janpath, but were stopped by Delhi Police.

During the demonstration, BJP leader RP Singh and other Sikh leaders were detained by the police. Singh stated that Gandhi should apologize for using a foreign platform to “defame India” and for implying that Sikhs are denied the right to wear turbans and visit Gurdwaras in India.

The protestors, including women, raised slogans and carried placards, accusing Gandhi of humiliating the Sikh community and holding the Congress party responsible for the 1984 anti-Sikh riots.

Gandhi’s remarks during an address to Indian Americans in Washington D.C. on Monday sparked the controversy. He stated that in India, the fight is for a Sikh person to be allowed to wear a turban and a kada and visit the Gurdwara. He further accused the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) of considering some religions, languages, and communities as inferior.

Gandhi’s comments have drawn widespread criticism from BJP leaders, who allege that he defamed India on foreign soil. The protest outside Gandhi’s residence highlights the growing tension surrounding his remarks and the sensitivity of the issue within the Sikh community.
