Wed Sep 11 09:43:58 UTC 2024: ## Louth Man Calls for Full Inquiry into Abuse by Religious Institutions
**Drogheda, Ireland** – Gerard Murray, a 54-year-old Louth native, has spoken out about the sexual abuse he suffered at the hands of two figures of authority in Drogheda during his youth. Murray, who was abused by Brother Daithí Kennedy, the principal of St Mary’s CBS in Drogheda, at the age of 14 and later by Dr Michael Shine ten years later, believes that full inquiries are necessary to uncover the extent of abuse that took place in schools run by religious institutions.
“I remember just being scared; school was just fear, there was no learning, or education, it was just being afraid,” Murray stated. He emphasizes that action must be taken to support the thousands of children who were allegedly abused in these institutions.
Murray’s call for investigations comes amidst a wave of local events in Drogheda, including the successful Sean Corcoran Festival and the upcoming Boyne Tradfest. However, for Murray, the focus must remain on seeking justice for the victims of abuse, and ensuring that such atrocities never happen again.
