**SANDY, Utah, Sept. 10, 2024** – Mountain America Credit Union has announced a significant expansion of its Educator Grants program, doubling the number of grants awarded for the upcoming school year. The Mountain America Foundation will now provide 25 grants of up to $2,000 each, totaling $50,000 in funding.
The program, which has been supporting educators since 2016, is open to teachers in K-12 schools located within Mountain America’s six-state footprint: Utah, Idaho, Arizona, Montana, Nevada, and New Mexico. Membership with the credit union is not required to apply.
“We are thrilled to expand this program and empower even more educators to bring their innovative learning ideas to life,” said Sharlene Wells, senior vice president of public relations and organizational communications at Mountain America Credit Union. “These grants are a testament to our commitment to supporting the passionate individuals who are shaping the future of our communities.”
Past grants have funded a wide range of projects, from hands-on science supplies to electric guitar building and social skills curriculum. Examples include:
* **John Goodman** from Bridger Elementary School in Logan, Utah, used a grant to teach students about diversity through activities centered on the different countries and languages represented in his school.
* **Mark Waterhouse** of Gem State Adventist Academy in Caldwell, Idaho, helped students apply math skills to build their own electric guitars.
* **Angelica Abbey** from Frye Elementary School in Chandler, Arizona, was able to provide high-interest, low-level (hi-lo) books to encourage reading among students with a variety of reading abilities.
