The Society for Queer and Trans Meival Studies is hosting a panel titled “Medieval Performances of Chastity and Gender” at the International Congress for Medieval Studies in Kalamazoo, MI in May 2025.
This panel seeks submissions that explore the complex ways in which chastity was used to perform gender in the medieval world. Submissions should consider how chastity and gender were performed in medieval literature, history, and culture, while embracing the diversity of lived experiences and gender performances of the era.
The panel welcomes intersectional approaches and encourages discussions drawing from queer studies, trans and gender studies, and other relevant theoretical frameworks.
