Tue Sep 10 15:50:38 UTC 2024: ## Arizona Senate Race Tightens: Lake Trails Gallego Despite Campaign Claims
**PHOENIX, ARIZONA** – Republican Senate candidate Kari Lake, a prominent ally of former President Donald Trump, is trailing behind her Democratic opponent, Representative Ruben Gallego, according to a new poll.
The Morning Consult poll, conducted between August 30 and September 8, showed Gallego leading Lake by 8 points, with 49% of the vote to Lake’s 41% among 901 likely voters. This follows a trend seen in other recent polls, with Gallego consistently leading by double digits.
Despite the polls, Lake has dismissed them as inaccurate and claimed her own internal polls show a tighter race. She attributes Gallego’s apparent lead to heavy spending on negative advertising and dismisses his voting record as radical.
“I put zero stock in these polls,” Lake said, dismissing the recent polls as “garbage.” “Nobody wins by 15 points, okay?”
Lake’s campaign maintains that enthusiasm for her candidacy is growing, pointing to her own July poll that showed her with a one-point lead.
However, the Republican candidate’s campaign has a history of downplaying poll results. In 2022, Lake lost the Arizona gubernatorial election to Democrat Katie Hobbs by a narrow margin but claimed the election was rigged. Her subsequent legal challenges were ultimately dismissed.
This race is crucial for both parties as the seat is being vacated by incumbent Kyrsten Sinema, who left the Democratic Party to become an independent. Arizona’s 3rd District has historically leaned Republican, but the tide appears to be shifting.
With the election approaching, the race between Lake and Gallego is likely to remain tight and fiercely contested.
