**New Delhi, India** – India has confirmed its first case of the “mpox” virus, also known as monkeypox, according to the Ministry of Health. The infected individual, who recently returned from a country where the disease is still present, has been isolated and is in stable condition.
The patient was found to have the West African monkey group 2 virus (Clade 2), which differs from the current Clade 1 virus that triggered a global health emergency by the World Health Organization (WHO). This is the first confirmed case of Clade 2 mpox in India since July 2022, when 30 similar cases were reported.
The Ministry assured that the infected individual does not have any systemic disease or accompanying pathology.
