Hyderabad – BRS leader T Harish Rao has launched a scathing attack on the Telangana government, accusing it of negligence in tackling the rising number of dog bite cases in the state. This comes after a recent incident where a helpless infant was killed in a brutal dog attack.

Harish Rao expressed his shock and outrage at the government’s apathy, stating, “Despite these tragic incidents, the Congress government remains indifferent. This is not just negligence, it’s an outright disregard for human life.” He highlighted the alarming statistic of over 60,000 dog bite cases reported this year alone, resulting in preventable deaths and devastating families.

The BRS leader blamed the government’s failure to control the stray dog population and ensure the availability of anti-rabies injections in public hospitals for the worsening situation. He pointed to the growing menace of stray dogs due to poor sanitation and the lack of action by municipal authorities and the Urban Development Department.

Harish Rao emphasized that the government must take immediate action, demanding the following steps:

* **Compensation:** Following the precedent set by the Haryana and Punjab High Courts, the government should provide Rs 5 lakh compensation to families of those who die from dog bites and Rs 50,000 to those injured.
* **Anti-Rabies Treatment:** All public hospitals should provide immediate treatment for dog bite victims, and anti-rabies injections should be available at all primary health centres and hospitals.
* **Sterilization Drives:** Committees should be set up to manage the stray dog population, and immediate sterilization drives should be launched in every village and town.

While condemning the government’s inaction on the dog bite crisis, Harish Rao also praised the Telangana government for its achievement in establishing a medical college in every district, a landmark milestone making it the only state in India to achieve this.
