**GUWAHATI:** The Guwahati Municipal Corporation (GMC) is offering a substantial 74% rebate on new household water connections under the Guwahati Jal Board. This offer is available to both existing water consumers and ration cardholders.
The announcement, made by Guwahati Mayor Mrigen Sarania, coincides with the ongoing implementation of three major water supply projects by the Jal Board. These projects, funded by the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), the New Development Bank, and the government, aim to provide water to all areas of Guwahati.
“Supplying household tap water to the citizens of Guwahati is the government’s priority,” said Sarania. Once these projects are operational, the GMC will cease its own water supply services.
Approximately 34,000 existing water consumers and ration cardholders under the GMC will receive a Rs. 7,000 rebate if they choose to switch to the Jal Board. Interested residents can obtain a specific form from their respective GMC ward councillors starting September 15th.
