Wed Sep 11 17:14:40 UTC 2024: ## Pro-Khalistan Leader Endorses Rahul Gandhi’s Remarks on Sikhs in India

**Washington D.C., September 11, 2024:** Gurpatwant Singh Pannun, the US-based pro-Khalistan attorney and general counsel for Sikhs for Justice (SFJ), has publicly endorsed Congress leader Rahul Gandhi’s recent statements regarding the situation of Sikhs in India. Pannun claimed that Gandhi’s remarks “justified” SFJ’s ongoing global Khalistan Referendum campaign.

Pannun specifically referenced Gandhi’s speech to Indian Americans in Herndon, Virginia, where he accused the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) of viewing certain religions and communities as inferior. Gandhi stated that the fight in India was “about whether a Sikh will be allowed to wear a turban and kada, go to gurudwara.”

Pannun, wanted in India on terror charges, called Gandhi’s comments “bold and pioneering” and stated that they “corroborate” the SFJ’s demand for a Punjab Independence Referendum to establish Khalistan, a separate Sikh homeland.

The endorsement comes amidst heightened tensions between India and the SFJ, which has been actively seeking to create a separate Sikh state. Last November, US federal prosecutors charged Indian national Nikhil Gupta with involvement in a foiled plot to assassinate Pannun in New York, allegedly orchestrated with the help of an Indian government employee.

India subsequently formed a high-level inquiry committee to investigate the US accusations.
