Tue Sep 10 16:13:13 UTC 2024: ## Irish Horses Aim for Big Wins at Kentucky Downs

**Lexington, KY** – Familiar Dreams, a mare with a remarkable rags-to-riches story, is set to compete in the lucrative Nashville Gold Cup at Kentucky Downs on Wednesday night. Originally purchased for a mere €4,000, Familiar Dreams, trained by Gordon Elliott, has since won four bumpers and was sold for a hefty €310,000 to Elliott and Qatar Racing. A maiden win at Tramore last month brought back a small portion of her purchase price, but victory in the Nashville Gold Cup would net her a massive $315,000 prize.

The race is part of Kentucky Downs’ autumn program, known for its generous purse offerings. Another Irish contender, Siege Of Troy, trained by Johnny Murtagh, will race in the following Dueling Ground Oaks, a Listed contest worth $1 million. Top US-based jockey Florent Geroux will ride Siege Of Troy, making it Murtagh’s second-ever start in North America.

Meanwhile, back home in Ireland, Ballydoyle’s newest addition, Happiest, a half-sister to the Guineas winner Peaceful, makes her debut at Cork on Wednesday.

**Legendary Trainer Michael Stoute Announces Retirement**

In other news, renowned Newmarket trainer Michael Stoute has announced his retirement at the end of the season. The 78-year-old trainer, known for his legendary success with Shergar, will leave behind a legacy of 10 British champion titles and countless wins in Ireland.

Stoute’s former stable jockey, Kieren Fallon, praised the trainer’s ability to get the best out of his horses. “He always got the best out of a horse. He was able to take a horse from a two-year-old until they retired and keep finding improvement,” Fallon said.

Stoute’s retirement marks the end of an era for the racing world. His dedication and skill will be missed, but his legacy of excellence will continue to inspire generations of trainers to come.
