Thu Sep 12 05:16:00 UTC 2024: ## Coastal Road Connects to Bandra-Worli Sea Link, Reducing Travel Time

**Mumbai, August 2, 2023:** The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) announced that northbound vehicles on the Coastal Road will be able to directly access the Bandra-Worli Sea Link starting Friday, August 4. This new connection will significantly reduce travel time between South Mumbai and the suburbs.

Chief Minister Eknath Shinde and his deputies Devendra Fadnavis and Ajit Pawar will inspect the new link on Thursday, August 3, before its official opening to the public.

“Northbound vehicles traveling from South Mumbai to Bandra via the Coastal Road can enter the Sea Link between 7 am and 11 pm,” said a senior civic official. “Southbound vehicles will continue to use the existing route until both arms of the Coastal Road are connected with the Sea Link.”

The Coastal Road, a Rs 14,000 crore project, will ultimately provide a seamless connection between South Mumbai and the suburbs. It has been opened in phases, with the southbound arm opening in March and the northbound carriageway opening in phases over the past few months. This latest connection marks the fourth opening on the road.

“Currently, motorists can reach from Marine Drive to Worli in less than 15 minutes, but the lack of a direct link with the Sea Link causes traffic congestion near the Worli exit during peak hours,” explained the official. “This new connection will alleviate this problem and improve the overall commuting experience.”

The ambitious Coastal Road project, spanning 10.58 km, began construction in October 2018. This latest development marks another milestone in the project, bringing Mumbai closer to a more efficient and connected transport system.
