Thu Sep 12 05:16:00 UTC 2024: ## South Sacramento Residents Hope to Shape Future of 102-Acre Property
**Sacramento, CA** – Two years after the city acquired 102 acres of vacant land in the Meadowview neighborhood, the future of this prime real estate remains uncertain. City Councilmember Mai Vang, who represents the district, sees the property as a key opportunity to revitalize South Sacramento.
“This is a unique economic opportunity,” Vang emphasized, stressing the need for community input in the development process. Wednesday night saw a gathering of residents and city leaders to discuss potential plans for the land.
Longtime resident Luisa Lavulo, who attended the meeting, underscored the importance of community voice, advocating for a youth sports complex to address a need for accessible playing fields in the area.
Housing is also a top priority, with 25% of the land designated for affordable housing. “Making sure we have affordable housing for families and communities here is one of my top priorities,” stated Vang.
While no decisions are finalized, residents are excited to be involved in a project they believe can transform their neighborhood. “We have to have a voice in what’s going on in our neighborhood,” Lavulo said, emphasizing the importance of community participation.
The next community meeting will take place on September 25 at Luther Burbank High School, with a presentation to the City Council anticipated before the year’s end.
