**Bengaluru:** A violent incident took place in Bengaluru on Wednesday when a local man, Shivalinga, was attacked with an iron rod after he requested Hindi-speaking workers to learn and speak Kannada. The assault occurred near Saraswati Vidya Mandir in Anekal.
Shivalinga, who has been employed at a river loom for nine years, confronted three workers from Uttar Pradesh who had joined the staff three months ago. Tensions had been rising due to language barriers. When Shivalinga asked the workers to communicate in Kannada, they responded by assaulting him with an iron rod, striking him on the head and other parts of his body.
Despite the severity of the attack, Shivalinga managed to escape with injuries that were not life-threatening. The assailants, who had previously used offensive language in Hindi against the victim, attempted to flee but were apprehended by local residents and handed over to the Anekal Police Station.
The workers, who were hired because they accepted lower wages than other workers, have also complained about issues of “unemployment” and “lower wages.”
The incident highlights the growing tension in Bengaluru due to language differences and the importance of promoting linguistic harmony. This incident is under investigation by the police.
