Tue Sep 10 17:11:27 UTC 2024: ## Orlando Airport to Hike Rental Car Fees to Fund Parking Garage Solution

**Orlando, Florida** – Travelers flying into Orlando International Airport (MCO) are facing a new hurdle: higher rental car fees. The Greater Orlando Aviation Authority (GOAA) announced plans to construct a consolidated rental car facility (ConRAC) near Terminal C, aiming to alleviate the congestion caused by rental cars taking up valuable parking spaces in the airport’s garages. However, the project comes with a hefty price tag, leading to a significant increase in the Customer Facility Charge (CFC) for rental cars.

Starting November 1st, the CFC will rise from $6 to $9 per day, with a maximum collection period of seven days, effectively tying MCO with Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) for the highest CFC fee in the nation. While the new ConRAC is projected to open in the early 2030s, the increase in fees will be immediately felt by travelers renting cars at MCO.

“The new facility will instantly free up around 5,000 parking spaces in the existing garages,” said Angela Starke, Senior Vice President of Public Affairs and Community Relations for GOAA. “It will also reduce customer confusion, curb congestion, and improve road safety.”

However, the increase in fees comes on top of existing charges like the Concession Recovery Fee, Energy Recovery Fee, Florida Surcharge, Vehicle License Fee, and Waste Tire & Battery Fee, potentially adding over $150 to a weeklong rental.

While the ConRAC is intended to improve the parking experience for travelers, the substantial increase in rental car fees may be a significant deterrent for some, especially those already budgeting for a trip to Orlando.
