**New Delhi/Islamabad:** A moderate earthquake with a magnitude of 5.8 struck Pakistan on Wednesday afternoon, sending tremors across North India, Pakistan, and Afghanistan. The quake, which occurred at a depth of 10 kilometers, was felt in cities including Peshawar, Islamabad, and Lahore in Pakistan, and New Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, Punjab, Jammu and Kashmir in India.
Social media was abuzz with reports of the tremors, with videos showing ceiling fans and other objects swaying briefly. While no reports of significant damage have emerged yet, the event has sparked anxiety in the region, particularly in Delhi, which is located in a seismically active zone near the Himalayas.
This is the second instance of tremors felt in Delhi and its surrounding areas in two weeks. A 5.7-magnitude earthquake struck Afghanistan on August 29, causing tremors in the region.
Pakistan is particularly vulnerable to earthquakes due to its location on the boundary of the Indian and Eurasian tectonic plates. In recent years, the country has experienced numerous earthquakes, including a devastating 7.4 magnitude quake in 2005 that killed over 74,000 people.
Experts warn that the region is susceptible to seismic activity and urge preparedness measures to mitigate potential damage and casualties.
