Thu Sep 12 17:12:18 UTC 2024: ## West Bengal Doctors’ Strike Continues: Mamata Banerjee Offers Resignation, Doctors Remain Unmoved

**Kolkata:** The ongoing strike by junior doctors at the RG Kar Medical College and Hospital in Kolkata, protesting the alleged rape and murder of a trainee doctor last month, has reached a stalemate. Despite West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee waiting for two hours to meet the protesting doctors, they refused to engage in a dialogue, leaving the Chief Minister in a state of despair.

“I am ready to resign for the people,” said Banerjee, adding that she sought justice in the case of the doctor’s murder. “I apologize to the people of Bengal who hoped the impasse over the RG Kar case would end today,” she lamented.

The doctors had earlier refused to meet the Chief Minister, demanding live streaming of the meeting. They had also previously declined to meet with the Chief Secretary, insisting on speaking with Banerjee directly.

The Chief Minister has repeatedly offered to meet the doctors, stating that a video recording of the meeting was available and could be shared with their consent, but live streaming was not feasible due to the ongoing court proceedings. She assured the doctors that no action would be taken against them and that “they would be forgiven as we are elders.”

The strike has resulted in the deaths of 27 patients and affected over seven lakh patients across the state.

The situation remains tense with no resolution in sight, leaving the state’s healthcare system in a precarious position.
