Mon Sep 09 15:18:36 UTC 2024: ## Meta Brings First-Person View Sharing to Messenger on Quest Headsets

Meta is joining the growing trend of mixed reality headsets offering first-person view sharing during video calls. Messenger on Quest headsets now allows users to share their view with others on the call, including both the real world through passthrough and virtual content like games and 2D windows.

This feature, previously available on Apple Vision Pro for FaceTime and Ray-Ban Meta glasses for WhatsApp and Messenger, brings a new level of immersion to video calls on Quest. While users can see everything the headset wearer sees, they can’t capture screenshots, record videos, or cast the view to other devices.

The update also sees the Messenger app for Horizon OS transitioning to a landscape, resizable format, replacing the previous portrait-only smartphone version.

However, the update is still lacking one key feature – avatars. Though Meta previously announced their development over a year ago, they remain absent from the latest version. It’s possible Meta will share news about avatar integration at their upcoming Meta Connect event, scheduled for September 25-26.
