**Philadelphia, PA** – Former President Donald Trump is amping up his rhetoric and spreading baseless conspiracies ahead of Tuesday night’s presidential debate with Vice President Kamala Harris. Trump has repeatedly claimed the event is “rigged” in favor of Harris, alleging a conspiracy between ABC News, the debate host, and the Harris campaign.
Trump’s allegations stem from the long-standing friendship between Harris and Dana Walden, a Disney executive who oversees ABC News. While Trump claims Walden’s influence will give Harris an unfair advantage, ABC News has vehemently denied any editorial influence from Walden, stating that all decisions are made by the network’s journalists and producers.
Trump’s accusations are just the latest in a string of baseless claims he has been promoting in recent weeks. He has also alleged that immigrants will be flooding the country to influence the election in Harris’ favor, claiming the election will be fraudulent, and calling Harris a “communist” and “Comrade Kamala”.
This is not the first time Trump has engaged in pushing disinformation during a debate. During his June debate with President Joe Biden, he repeated several unfounded claims, including that police “ushered” rioters into the Capitol during the January 6th attack.
The debate, set to be moderated by ABC News anchors David Muir and Linsey Davis, is scheduled for 9pm ET on Tuesday at the National Constitution Center in Philadelphia. It will be broadcast live on ABC, C-SPAN, PBS, MSNBC, Fox News, and streamed on ABC.com, ABC News’ YouTube channel, ABC News Live, Disney+, and Hulu.
Despite Trump’s efforts to cast doubt on the legitimacy of the event, the debate is expected to draw a large audience. It remains to be seen whether Trump will continue his pattern of promoting disinformation during the debate itself.
