**Paris, France:** Australian breakdancer Rachael Gunn, known as B-Girl Raygun, has climbed to the top of the world rankings despite a disappointing performance at the Paris Olympics. While Raygun failed to score a single point at the Games, her victory at the 2023 WDSF Oceania Championships has catapulted her to the No. 1 spot in the World DanceSport Federation rankings.
The unexpected ranking surge has sparked questions from fans and experts, as none of the Olympic medalists – B-Girl Ami (gold), B-Girl Nicka (silver), and B-Girl 671 (bronze) – are currently ranked in the top 10.
The WDSF clarified that the rankings are based on the top four performances of each breaker over the past 12 months. The WDSF stated that this strategic scheduling was implemented to align with the Olympic qualification system and allow athletes to focus on Olympic preparation without the pressure of additional ranking events.
While the situation may seem unusual, it highlights the unique challenges of breakdancing rankings during an Olympic year. It remains to be seen how the rankings will evolve once the breakdancing season resumes and new events contribute to the points system.
