CLEVELAND, OH – A French Bulldog named Harvey caused a fire that displaced an Ohio family in August, leaving them facing months of repairs. According to Cleveland 19 News, Harvey, while attempting to grab a snack from the stovetop, inadvertently ignited a burner, setting the kitchen ablaze.
The incident was captured on video, confirming the unlikely cause of the fire. “If we didn’t have it on camera, it’s kinda a far-fetched tale; you wouldn’t really believe it,” homeowner Chris DiLuzio told Cleveland 19 News. “That’s him just being fat and hungry.”
DiLuzio was at work when he received a call from the fire department. While all pets were rescued and no one was injured, the fire caused extensive damage to the house. DiLuzio, his wife, and their six children are facing a lengthy displacement while repairs are underway.
“We lost a lot of irreplaceable stuff that doesn’t have value,” DiLuzio said, emphasizing the emotional loss beyond material possessions.
This incident serves as a reminder of the importance of pet safety and highlights the potential dangers of leaving unattended cooking appliances.
