Tue Sep 10 14:21:52 UTC 2024: ## Hyderabad Residents Arrested for Obstructing Demolition with Self-Immolation Threats

Hyderabad: Three individuals have been arrested by the Madhapur police for allegedly obstructing demolition efforts by Hyderabad Disaster Response and Asset Monitoring and Protection Agency (HYDRAA) officials on September 8th.

The incident occurred at Sunnam Cheruvu in Guttala Begumpet, where officials were demolishing illegal constructions. Venkatesh, a driver, his wife Lakshmi, a daily wage worker, and Venkatesh’s brother Naresh, the owners of the illegal structures, are accused of pouring kerosene on themselves and threatening self-immolation to prevent the demolition.

Assistant Executive Engineer A. Lakshminarayana filed a complaint alleging that the suspects’ actions hindered his ability to perform his duties as a public servant. The police have registered a case against the trio and an investigation is currently underway.
