**THOMASVILLE, GA -** The Thomas County School System will be honoring the first class of inductees into the new Thomas County Schools Sports Hall of Fame during each home football game this season. This week, the spotlight is on three legendary athletes: Kirk Beckham, George Herring, and Terry White.
Beckham, a graduate of the class of 1962, holds the distinction of being the first state champion in Central High School history. He won the state title in the half mile run his senior year, after previously placing second and third in the state during his sophomore and junior years, respectively. Beckham was also the first quarterback and scorer for the Yellow Jacket football team.
Herring, a standout offensive lineman for the 1976 Central football team, went on to achieve greatness in powerlifting. He is a 3-time national powerlifting champion for Auburn University, a 3-time collegiate All-American powerlifter, and a silver medalist at the world arm wrestling championship. Herring is also a member of the World Powerlifting Hall of Fame, Georgia and Alabama Powerlifting Hall of Fame, and the Thomasville/Thomas County Sports Hall of Fame.
White, considered one of the greatest running backs in Yellow Jacket history, led his 1976 Central team to one of the best seasons in school history, including a legendary victory over the Thomasville Bulldogs. White broke the Region 1-AAA rushing record during his senior season, going on to play defensive back for the University of Pittsburgh alongside NFL legend Dan Marino.
The three inductees will be recognized during the pregame ceremony for the Bainbridge game and will serve as honorary captains for the Yellow Jackets during the coin toss.
