Mon Sep 09 14:49:44 UTC 2024: ## Women Grappling with Aging: Stress, Skin Concerns, and the Rise of “Tech Neck”

A new survey reveals that nearly half of American women experience stress related to aging, with younger generations feeling the pressure most acutely. The survey, conducted by Talker Research on behalf of NEOSTRATA, polled 2,000 women across four generations and found that Gen Z (56%) and millennials (57%) are significantly more stressed about aging than Gen X (46%) and baby boomers (31%).

While women are embracing aging with grace (76%), they are also acutely aware of its visible signs, with over half (54%) concerned about others noticing aging changes. The most common signs observed by women were fine lines on the face (44%), forehead wrinkles (32%), age spots (32%), and neck creases (15%), often appearing by age 40.

The survey highlights a growing focus on skincare, with 70% of women taking their routines seriously. However, while most (81%) target their entire face, a surprisingly low number (less than 40%) use products specifically for the neck, eyes, or arms. Only 17% prioritize neck care, and less than one-third use dedicated neck products daily.

This neglect of the neck is alarming, especially given the increasing prevalence of “tech neck,” a phenomenon caused by the repeated head-down posture associated with smartphone and laptop use. Dermatologist and NEOSTRATA partner Dr. Alexis Stephens cautions that this tech-induced aging can manifest as wrinkles across the neck and is a growing concern.

The survey also reveals that women primarily attribute aging to stress (55%), bad habits (39%), and lack of sunscreen (33%). While technology is acknowledged as a factor by only 25%, it is clear that more awareness is needed regarding “tech neck” and the need for targeted skincare to combat it.

This research provides valuable insights into women’s attitudes and approaches to aging. It underscores the growing awareness of skin health and the importance of personalized skincare routines, especially when it comes to addressing specific concerns like “tech neck.” As women continue to embrace aging, understanding the impact of lifestyle choices and investing in targeted skincare products are crucial for maintaining a youthful appearance and feeling confident throughout life.
