Mon Sep 09 15:17:17 UTC 2024: ## National Guardsman Suspect in Kentucky Highway Shooting Spree Still at Large

**London, Kentucky** – A manhunt continues for Joseph Couch, a 32-year-old National Guardsman suspected of shooting at motorists on Interstate 75 in rural Kentucky. The attacks, which occurred on Saturday, resulted in five people being shot and two others injured in a subsequent crash.

Authorities believe Couch purchased an AR-style rifle and approximately 1,000 rounds of ammunition just hours before the shooting spree. The rifle, later recovered from a wooded area near the highway, is believed to have been used to target vehicles from a high vantage point.

Couch’s vehicle was identified at the scene, and his phone, although its battery was removed, was also recovered. Law enforcement officials have described the search for Couch as “walking in a jungle,” due to the rugged, hilly terrain.

Authorities are urging residents in a remote area near London to take precautions, including locking their doors, keeping porch lights on, and monitoring security cameras.

The FBI and local law enforcement are working together on the investigation, with helicopters and drones being used to search the area. “We feel pretty confident this is the individual,” said Michael E. Stansbury, the special agent in charge of the Louisville FBI office. “We have solid evidence.”

Schools in the area have been closed for the third consecutive day as the manhunt continues.
