Mon Sep 09 16:04:30 UTC 2024: ## Cowboys COO Stephen Jones: No Frustration Over Contract Negotiations, Just “The Nature of the Beast”

**Dallas, TX** – Despite nail-biting contract negotiations that went down to the wire, the Dallas Cowboys secured long-term deals with both quarterback Dak Prescott and wide receiver CeeDee Lamb just before their season opener. Lamb signed a four-year, $136 million extension ($67 million guaranteed) after holding out of training camp, while Prescott inked a record-breaking four-year, $240 million contract ($231 million guaranteed).

Despite the close calls, Cowboys COO and co-owner Stephen Jones insists there was “zero frustration” with the process. “That’s the nature of the business; things get done at deadlines,” Jones told Sports Illustrated’s Albert Breer. “It’s just part of the beast. You see it with good teams around the league, San Francisco, Cincinnati, it doesn’t bother us.”

Jones even went so far as to say the late negotiations were a boon for the media: “It actually gives y’all a lot to write about, so that’s actually outstanding, y’all got something to talk about.”

With the contract drama behind them, the Cowboys kicked off their season with a dominant 33-17 victory over the Cleveland Browns. Prescott had a clean game (19-of-32, 179 yards, one touchdown) while Lamb led the team in receiving (five catches, 61 yards).

The Cowboys look to continue their winning ways this Sunday when they host the New Orleans Saints at 1 p.m. ET.
