**LOS ANGELES** – Former *Saturday Night Live* cast member Sasheer Zamata has publicly come out as gay in a new interview with *Them*. The 38-year-old actress, known for her roles in shows like *Woke* and *Home Economics*, explained that she’s been cast as queer women in many of her previous projects. However, she notes, “That was before I, myself, was figuring out my identity.”
Zamata, who departed *SNL* in 2017, now feels comfortable and confident in her life but wanted to share her identity publicly to avoid silencing herself. “It felt like if I didn’t say anything, I’d be ignoring a part of me, and that doesn’t feel very good,” she stated.
Zamata is set to star alongside Kathryn Hahn in Disney+’s *Agatha All Along*, a *WandaVision* spinoff premiering on September 18th.
