Mon Sep 09 14:00:59 UTC 2024: ## Sharp and NTT Docomo Unveil Expensive AR Glasses for Enterprise Use

Sharp and NTT Docomo have announced a new pair of AR glasses called MiRZA, set to launch in Japan this fall. These glasses, developed by NTT QONOQ Devices, a joint venture between Sharp and NTT’s XR development branch, are designed for enterprise use and will come at a hefty price tag of ¥248,000 (~$1,730 USD).

MiRZA boasts a unique design with chunky struts and rims, 6DOF tracking sensors, and a center-mounted camera. It also features “mirror bars” developed by LetinAR, promising a 45-degree diagonal field of view. The device offers multiple screen displays, photo capabilities, and calling features.

While the company highlights a peak brightness of 1,000 nits, it remains unclear if this refers to perceived brightness for the user or the brightness of the 1,920 × 1,080 microOLEDs. MiRZA is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon AR2 Gen1 processor and features wireless connectivity to Snapdragon Spaces-compatible smartphones. Currently, the only compatible phone is the Japan-exclusive AQUOS R9 SH-51E, but more compatible devices are expected to be announced in the future.

It remains unclear if MiRZA will be available outside of Japan.

Despite its high price point and unconventional design, MiRZA could potentially become a significant player in the enterprise AR market. However, with its current focus on Japan and the lack of clarity on firmware and user experience, the long-term success of these glasses remains to be seen.
