Seattle singer-songwriter Ben Gibbard, known for his work with Death Cab For Cutie and The Postal Service, has added his voice to a new track by fellow Seattle artist Sea Lemon (Natalie Lew). The shimmering fuzz-pop jam “Crystals” showcases Gibbard’s signature dreamy vocals and explores the complexities of coping mechanisms, with Lew stating that the song reflects the “lackluster” feeling of “manifesting.”
Gibbard’s verse, according to Lew, adds another layer to the song, suggesting that confronting and living in one’s darkness can also be a form of coping.
Lew, a self-proclaimed longtime Death Cab fan, is thrilled with Gibbard’s contribution, stating that his songwriting has inspired her since she began writing music.
“Crystals” is out now on Luminelle and marks another collaboration for the busy Gibbard, who recently performed the National Anthem at a Mariners game and guested on Toro Y Moi’s “Hollywood.”
