Tue Sep 10 15:23:13 UTC 2024: ## Saudi Arabia Defeats 10-Man China in World Cup Qualifier
**Dalian, China** – Saudi Arabia pulled off a stunning upset on Tuesday, defeating 10-man China 2-1 in a World Cup qualifying match. The victory comes on the heels of a 7-0 drubbing of China by Japan last week, further jeopardizing China’s chances of qualifying for the 2026 World Cup.
China took an early lead in the 14th minute through an own goal by Ali Lajami. However, the advantage was short-lived. Saudi midfielder Mohamed Kanno was red-carded shortly after for a dangerous tackle on China’s Jiang Shenglong.
Despite their numerical advantage, China struggled to capitalize on their opportunities. Saudi Arabia, led by former Manchester City and Italy manager Roberto Mancini, equalized just before halftime through a header by Hassan Kadish.
The second half saw China apply pressure on a tiring Saudi defense. Wang Shangyuan had a goal disallowed for offside, while Salem Al-Dawsari missed a golden chance for Saudi Arabia when his shot hit the crossbar.
In the dying minutes of the match, Kadish once again rose to the occasion, heading home a corner kick to secure the victory for Saudi Arabia. The result leaves China at the bottom of Group C, with two losses in as many games.
China face an uphill battle to qualify for the 2026 World Cup, with only the top two teams from each group guaranteed a place in the tournament.
