Hampton Beach, NH – In a dramatic turn of events at the annual Hampton Beach Lobster Roll Eating Competition, New Hampshire Governor Chris Sununu sprang into action to save a choking contestant.

Contestant Christian Moreno, in the midst of scarfing down lobster rolls, began struggling to breathe and signaled for help. Governor Sununu, watching from the side of the stage, quickly assessed the situation and performed the Heimlich maneuver on Moreno.

“I could tell he was having trouble getting something down,” said Sununu in an interview. “I started saying, ‘He’s choking; he’s choking,’ but people weren’t responding, so I just went and gave him the Heimlich.”

After five compressions, Moreno was able to breathe again, much to the relief of the crowd. Unfazed by the near-death experience, Moreno went right back to eating, consuming another seven lobster rolls!

Moreno, unaware that his savior was the governor, focused on getting back to the competition. “My counter came up to me and made a joke, saying, ‘I bet nobody else can say they’ve gotten the Heimlich from the governor before,'” said Moreno. “I looked at him and was like, ‘That was the governor?'”

Although Moreno didn’t win the competition, he still managed to eat a remarkable nine lobster rolls. The incident has brought the governor’s quick thinking and composure to the forefront, highlighting his quick actions in a truly unexpected moment.
