**NEW YORK, NY** – Renowned pollster Nate Silver has made a dramatic shift in his presidential election forecast, now predicting a landslide victory for former President Donald Trump in the Electoral College.
According to Silver’s model, published on his blog Silver Bulletin, Trump has a 63.8% chance of winning the majority of electoral votes, with Vice President Kamala Harris trailing at 36%. This represents a significant swing in favor of Trump, who was previously seen as either narrowly ahead or trailing Harris in earlier projections.
Silver attributes this shift to a recent New York Times/Siena College poll, one of his model’s highest-rated surveys, which showed Trump leading Harris by a narrow margin of 48% to 47%. The model now predicts Trump to secure 312 electoral votes, surpassing his 2016 victory over Hillary Clinton and significantly exceeding Harris’s projected 226 votes.
While Silver’s prediction paints a grim outlook for Harris, other models still present a more competitive race. RealClearPolitics projects a narrow victory for Harris with 273 electoral votes, while FiveThirtyEight forecasts a Harris win with 281 electoral votes compared to Trump’s 257.
However, the margin between the candidates in key swing states remains extremely close. Notably, Silver’s model still gives Harris a slight edge in the popular vote, predicting a 56% chance of winning compared to Trump’s 44%.
The upcoming ABC News-hosted presidential debate on Tuesday could have a significant impact on the race, and Silver acknowledges that it could potentially alter the effects of the recent New York Times/Siena College poll.
