**LOS ANGELES -** Renowned actress Kathy Bates has announced her retirement from acting, with the upcoming CBS reboot of “Matlock” serving as her final project. The 76-year-old actress, known for her roles in films like “Titanic” and “Misery,” will lead the reboot as Madeline “Matty” Matlock, a brilliant septuagenarian lawyer.

Bates, who last appeared in television’s “American Horror Story: Apocalypse” in 2018, revealed her decision in a recent interview, stating, “This is my last dance.” She admitted that she was initially ready to retire after a negative experience on an unnamed film project. “It [acting] becomes my life. Sometimes I get jealous of having this talent. Because I can’t hold it back, and I just want my life,” she shared.

However, Bates was drawn back to acting after reading the “Matlock” script, finding a strong connection to the character. “Everything I’ve prayed for, worked for, clawed my way up for, I am suddenly able to be asked to use all of it,” she reflected.

The “Matlock” reboot, created and executive produced by Jenny Snyder Urman, follows Matty as she returns to the workforce after a successful career. She joins a prestigious law firm, utilizing her sharp wit and experience to win cases and expose corruption.

Joining Bates in the cast are Skye P. Marshall, Jason Ritter, David Del Rio, and Leah Lewis. The reboot, executive produced by Bates, Eric Christian Olsen, Joanna Klein, John Will, and Kat Coiro, is set to premiere on CBS on September 22nd.
