Mon Sep 09 16:11:11 UTC 2024: ## Crypto Left Out: Kamala Harris’ Policy Platform Fails to Mention Bitcoin, Other Digital Assets

Despite a surge in political spending by pro-crypto groups, Democratic presidential candidate Kamala Harris’ newly released policy platform makes no mention of Bitcoin or other cryptocurrencies. The platform, unveiled on her campaign website, focuses on American innovation and workers, including support for artificial intelligence and “cutting-edge industries of the future.” While some may interpret this as a subtle nod to crypto, Harris has yet to publicly address the topic during her campaign.

This omission comes as a surprise given the significant political influence crypto is gaining. The pro-crypto super PAC, Fairshake, has raised over $246 million this election cycle, surpassing even pro-Israel lobbying groups in fundraising. The group’s influence is already being felt, as they successfully thwarted a California Senate candidate and have plans to spend tens of millions of dollars in key congressional races.

While Harris herself remains silent on crypto, her campaign has shown some interest in the industry. Crypto advocate Mark Cuban reported that Harris’ staff has reached out with questions about the industry, and Circle CEO Jeremy Allaire commended the campaign for demonstrating a “concerted effort” to understand digital assets.

Meanwhile, former President Donald Trump, who previously dismissed Bitcoin as a scam, has drastically shifted his stance on crypto. He has made pro-crypto policy pledges at industry conferences and even teased his family’s own crypto project.

The lack of mention of crypto in Harris’ platform stands in stark contrast to the growing political influence of the industry. Whether this silence reflects a lack of understanding or a deliberate strategy remains to be seen.
