Renowned actor James Earl Jones, best known for his roles in “Coming to America” and as the voice of Darth Vader, passed away at the age of 93 on Monday, September 9th, at his home in New York City.
Jones’ final film appearance was in the 2021 sequel “Coming 2 America,” where he reprised his role as King Jaffe Joffer, the ruler of the fictional nation of Zamunda. In a poignant twist, King Jaffe Joffer passes away in the film after planning his own funeral, mirroring the end of Jones’ own illustrious acting career.
Despite sharing the screen, Jones and co-star Eddie Murphy never filmed together due to strict COVID-19 safety protocols and Jones’ advanced age. Most of Jones’ scenes were shot in isolation, with the actor facing additional challenges due to his Type-2 diabetes and travel restrictions.
Jones’ career spanned decades, with one of his final roles being the reprisal of his iconic voice as Darth Vader in the Disney+ series “Obi-Wan Kenobi.”
News of his passing sparked an outpouring of tributes from fellow actors and filmmakers, including William Shatner, George Lucas, Danny DeVito, and Kerry Washington.
