Mon Sep 09 13:42:41 UTC 2024: ## EU Accuses Iran of Supplying Missiles to Russia, Threatens Further Sanctions

**Brussels, Belgium** – The European Union (EU) has accused Iran of supplying ballistic missiles to Russia, citing credible intelligence shared by allies. This claim, while vehemently denied by Tehran, has not been explicitly refuted by Moscow.

EU spokesperson Peter Stano stated that the bloc is investigating the information and if confirmed, “this delivery would represent a substantive material escalation in Iran’s support for Russia’s illegal war of aggression against Ukraine.” Stano further emphasized the EU’s unanimous stance, declaring that they will respond “swiftly and in coordination with international partners,” including potentially implementing new and significant sanctions against Iran.

Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Nasser Kanani vehemently rejected the accusations, asserting that Iran does not export arms to any side of the conflict. However, the Kremlin, while acknowledging the report, remained ambiguous, suggesting the information might not be accurate.

This accusation comes amidst existing tensions between the West and Iran, stemming from Tehran’s provision of drones to Russia for use in the Ukrainian war. The United States has previously warned Iran of severe repercussions for any missile deliveries, potentially jeopardizing ongoing efforts to improve relations between the two countries.

The alleged missile transfer marks a significant development in the conflict, with Moscow increasingly reliant on Iran and North Korea for weapons as Western sanctions take their toll.
