Dothan native Thomas Ponder narrowly missed out on a top-10 finish at the PGA Tour Americas Fortinet Cup Championship in Toronto, Canada. Despite a strong start and a three-way tie after the first nine holes of the final round, Ponder faltered in the last five holes, finishing in 11th place with a score of 281.
Ponder’s performance earns him a 36th place ranking in the Fortinet Cup, granting him exemption on the PGA Tour Americas next spring. He achieved two top-10 finishes this season, including a tie for fourth at the CRMC Championship.
Ponder will now focus on the PGA Qualifying School, starting with the First Stage in Mobile, Alabama, in October. He aims to navigate the three stages of the Q-School to earn a qualifying card to the Korn Ferry Tour, the level just below the PGA Tour. Interestingly, Dothan’s RTJ Highland Oaks course will host one of the Second Stage events in December.
This news follows Ponder’s impressive season, showcasing his potential and determination to advance his career in the world of professional golf.
