Tue Sep 10 16:17:00 UTC 2024: ## Danbury Students Face Cleanup After Homecoming Crosswalk Vandalism
**DANBURY, TX** – Danbury High School seniors are facing consequences after vandalizing the city’s freshly painted crosswalks during a homecoming celebration. The students, participating in a Project Graduation event, disregarded a city council directive prohibiting them from decorating the crosswalks.
Despite clear instructions, the seniors spray-painted their initials and names onto the crosswalks, causing damage estimated at nearly $4,500. The incident occurred on Sunday, as students painted from Panther Drive to Main Street.
Mayor Sue Powell confirmed that the students involved will be responsible for cleaning up the crosswalks and restoring them to their original condition. “The solution that we have is that the seniors, who did not follow instructions, will be cleaning up the crosswalks, getting them repainted,” she said.
The incident has drawn criticism from both city officials and residents. While the students’ actions were not considered politically charged or offensive, their disregard for the city’s property has raised concerns.
“Students who didn’t follow the rules should correct the situation and not the parents, not the school and not the city’s responsibility,” Mayor Powell stated.
The homecoming parade and bonfire on Monday afternoon were otherwise deemed a success, but the crosswalk vandalism has cast a shadow over the event.
The students have until Monday to complete the cleanup, and city officials are hoping this serves as a lesson in respecting community property.
