The SEC is poised to dominate the College Football Playoff if the season ended today, with six teams out of twelve making the projected bracket. This includes two-thirds of the top nine seeds, led by No. 1 Georgia.
Tennessee, following their 51-10 victory over NC State, is a newcomer to the projected bracket at No. 7. Another newcomer is Northern Illinois, who secured their spot at No. 25 after a shocking 16-14 upset of Notre Dame. This upset resulted in both Notre Dame and Boise State falling out of the projected CFP field.
Texas, at No. 2 behind Georgia, is the highest-ranked non-conference champion in the bracket after a strong 31-12 road win over reigning national champions Michigan.
The projected conference champions outside of the SEC are Ohio State (Big Ten), Miami (ACC), and Utah (Big 12). These four teams will receive first-round byes in the CFP as the top seeds, regardless of their overall ranking.
Miami climbed to the No. 3 spot after a commanding 56-9 win over Florida A&M, surpassing Utah.
With another exciting week of college football ahead, the projected CFP bracket is sure to see further shifts and surprises as the season progresses.
