**Paris, France** – Chinese bicycle-sharing giant Hellobike is set to expand its operations into Europe, with the French capital Paris as its initial target. The Shanghai-based company has submitted a bid for the city’s 2025 dockless bicycle-sharing service tender, according to Manon Bouvet, Hellobike’s spokeswoman for France, Belgium, and Switzerland.
Hellobike faces competition from existing operators Lime and Dott, who have also submitted bids. Paris already boasts a fleet of docked bicycles known as Velib.
Hellobike plans to expand its European footprint beyond Paris, with bids also anticipated for other French cities as well as Barcelona and Sevilla in Spain. The company, owned by HelloRide, operates a vast network of seven million bicycles, scooters, and cars across 500 cities in China, generating $2 billion in revenue last year. Hellobike already operates in Singapore and Sydney.
Notable shareholders of HelloRide include the shopping platform Alibaba and its former subsidiary Ant Group, owner of the Alipay payment service. If successful in its Paris bid, Hellobike intends to assemble the planned 6,000 bicycles locally and hire 60 staff for maintenance.
