Tue Sep 10 18:53:00 UTC 2024: ## Merritt Man Arrested After Armed Break-in
Merritt RCMP have arrested a man after he allegedly broke into a home on Bann Street while armed with a gun. The incident occurred on Thursday, September 5th, just before 7:30 pm.
According to police, the suspect, identified as Riley Hopkins, fled the residence before officers arrived. He was later located and arrested in a trailer at the Diamondvale Mobile Park by the Southeast District Emergency Response Team.
Police say the incident appeared to be targeted, as Hopkins was known to both the residents of the home on Bann Street and the residents of the trailer at Diamondvale Mobile Park.
Hopkins faces charges of uttering threats, possessing a weapon for a dangerous purpose, and being unlawfully in a dwelling house. He has been released on bail and is scheduled to appear in court on October 8th.
