**San Bernardino County, CA** – A wildfire dubbed the Line Fire has exploded in Southern California, forcing evacuations and threatening thousands of homes and businesses. The blaze, which started on September 5th near the city of San Bernardino, has scorched over 20,500 acres and is only 3% contained.

Cal Fire, the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection, reports that over 36,000 structures are in the path of the fire, including homes, commercial buildings, and other structures. While no properties have been damaged so far, evacuation orders are in place for several areas of San Bernardino, with warnings issued for additional neighborhoods.

Governor Gavin Newsom has declared a state of emergency for the county, urging residents to heed evacuation orders and prepare to leave immediately if necessary. He thanked President Biden for approving support for firefighters and first responders battling the blaze.

The cause of the fire is currently under investigation. Over 1,700 personnel are working to extinguish the fire, utilizing helicopters, engines, dozers, and water tenders.

The fire has also produced a rare weather phenomenon: pyrocumulus clouds, known for producing lightning and strong winds. The National Weather Service in San Diego reported over 3,700 lightning strikes within these clouds near the Line Fire, further complicating firefighting efforts.

This wildfire is the latest in a series of devastating fires to plague California, highlighting the increasing threat of wildfires due to climate change and drought conditions.
