Mon Sep 09 15:14:13 UTC 2024: ## Tech Industry Seen as Most Family-Friendly by Parents, Survey Reveals

A new survey of 2,000 American parents who have taken parental leave reveals a growing desire for work-life balance and a shift towards industries seen as more accommodating to family life.

The survey, commissioned by TripleTen and conducted by Talker Research, found that **43% of parents frequently prioritize work over their children**, leading many to consider leaving the workforce altogether. In fact, 59% of parents actually did leave their careers to focus on raising their children.

The tech industry emerged as the most supportive industry for family life, with 15% of parents believing it would best accommodate their needs. Tech also topped the list for supporting flexible work schedules (17%), a crucial factor for many parents.

**Parents highlighted a lack of modern benefits in their current jobs**, including four-day work weeks, unlimited PTO, remote work options, robust health insurance, and on-site childcare.

The survey revealed a stark reality of **parents missing out on key family moments** due to work obligations. Nearly all parents (96%) admitted feeling guilty about prioritizing work over their children, missing events like field trips, sporting events, and family meals. Over half (56%) have missed their children’s events due to work commitments, and 58% have had their children ask to spend more time with them.

**The tech industry offers a glimmer of hope.** 61% of parents currently working in tech believe it has allowed them to spend more time with their families compared to previous jobs.

**”Parents are entitled to spend as much time with their children as they can, and their careers should support that focus,”** stated Maggie Elentukh, VP of Communications and Brand at TripleTen.

The survey highlights the need for employers to adapt to the evolving needs of parents and provide the support necessary for a healthy work-life balance. The tech industry, with its focus on flexibility and modern benefits, may be a blueprint for other industries seeking to attract and retain talent by offering family-friendly work environments.
