**Canberra, Australia:** The Australian government has announced plans to introduce legislation requiring age verification for social media platforms, aiming to restrict access for children under a yet-to-be-determined age. Prime Minister Anthony Albanese stated the government will soon trial age verification technology, potentially barring children between the ages of 14 and 16 from opening accounts.

This move comes amidst growing concerns about the impact of social media on children, including cyberbullying and exposure to harmful content. Parents are increasingly demanding stronger online protections for their children, and the opposition party has pledged to ban children under 16 from social media altogether if elected in the upcoming May elections.
