Drew Brees, the legendary New Orleans Saints quarterback, is looking to return to the NFL broadcasting scene, this time as a color commentator. After a brief stint with NBC in 2021, where he was primarily assigned to college football and studio work, Brees expressed his desire to call NFL games, believing it’s where he can truly shine.

“I valued my time at NBC… but I didn’t really get the chance to broadcast NFL games,” Brees told Front Office Sports Today. “And that’s what I feel like I’m most qualified to do.”

Despite some criticism for his performance during an NFL playoff game call on Peacock, Brees remains confident in his abilities, stating, “I think I could be the absolute best at it, if given the opportunity.”

He highlighted his extensive knowledge of the game and passion for explaining the strategy behind football plays, saying, “Telling the story of the game, getting you inside the huddle, getting you inside the quarterback’s head… That’s something I’d love to do down the road when the time is right.”

Brees’ comments come at a time when fellow NFL legend Tom Brady is also entering the broadcasting world. Praising Brady for taking a year off before his Fox debut, Brees said, “I think he’s done it the right way… He took time to just kind of relax and reflect a little bit and also prepare.”

Brees believes Brady’s unique insights will offer “golden nuggets” for fans, adding to the excitement of the upcoming season. As the new NFL season kicked off, Brees expressed hope of securing a broadcasting role that will allow him to bring fans closer to the action, providing the in-depth analysis only a quarterback of his caliber can provide.
