**Ibiza, Spain** – The Guardia Civil in Ibiza has successfully dismantled an international drug trafficking network, resulting in the seizure of over 1 million ecstasy pills, the largest ever in Spanish history. This operation, dubbed “Operation Adriatic,” also yielded a significant cache of other narcotics, including ketamine, MDMA, cocaine, pink cocaine, hashish, and marijuana, bringing the total weight of seized drugs to 700 kilograms.
The operation, carried out by the Guardia Civil’s Anti-Drug Organized Crime Team (DOA) in collaboration with the Ibiza police and Italian authorities, involved ten searches across Ibiza and Benalmádena (Malaga), leading to the arrest of nine individuals, including five Italians, one Dutch national, and three Spaniards.
According to Colonel Alejandro Hernández, head of the Guardia Civil in the Balearics, the drugs were found in various locations, including a home in Ibiza and within double-bottomed vehicles used by the organization to smuggle drugs onto the island.
The operation was initiated after agents detected a network smuggling drugs into Ibiza using mules transporting vehicles with hidden compartments from the Netherlands. A vehicle carrying 25 kilograms of MDMA, ketamine, and ecstasy was intercepted at the Spanish-French border in Irun, leading to the identification of the main members of the criminal network.
The estimated value of the seized drugs is over 25 million euros. Seven of the nine arrested individuals have been remanded in custody, while two have been released on bail.
Colonel Hernández expressed hope that the detainees will be convicted and that this operation will be a deterrent against future drug trafficking activities. He highlighted the importance of apprehending and prosecuting individuals involved in drug smuggling, emphasizing the success of “Operation Adriatic” in disrupting a significant drug network.
This operation is part of “Operation High Impact Zulu Bravo,” launched this summer in Ibiza, which has resulted in the identification of 30,000 individuals, the inspection of 14,000 vehicles, the filing of over 1,000 reports, and the arrest of 127 individuals.
