**NEW YORK** – James Earl Jones, the legendary actor whose distinctive bass voice graced countless films, television shows, and theatre productions for over six decades, passed away on Monday at the age of 93.

Jones’ career spanned decades, earning him two Tony Awards, two Primetime Emmys, a Golden Globe, a Grammy, and an honorary Academy Award. He captivated audiences with his powerful performances, from his portrayal of disillusioned writer Terence Mann in the 1989 film “Field of Dreams” to his role as boxer Jack Jefferson in “The Great White Hope.”

Sports fans will also remember Jones for his roles in “The Sandlot” (1993) and “The Bingo Long Traveling All-Stars & Motor Kings” (1976), films that explored the world of baseball during different eras.

However, Jones’ voice became synonymous with pop culture icons, notably as the voice of Mufasa in Disney’s “The Lion King” and the menacing Darth Vader in the “Star Wars” franchise.
