**Bengaluru, India:** In a remarkable comeback to first-class cricket, Indian wicketkeeper-batter Rishabh Pant showcased his exceptional talent with a breathtaking catch to dismiss India A opener Mayank Agarwal during the ongoing Duleep Trophy match at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium.
Pant, who has been recovering from a serious car crash in December 2022, last played a first-class match in a Test series against Bangladesh. He made a triumphant return to cricket in the IPL earlier this year and even played in India’s T20 World Cup-winning campaign.
This Duleep Trophy match marked his return to the longer format after almost two years, and he didn’t disappoint. Though he didn’t contribute much with the bat, Pant made a strong statement with his remarkable glovework.
The catch came in the 16th over of India A’s innings, when Navdeep Saini bowled a length ball that Agarwal attempted to glance down the leg side. Pant, diving down the leg side, took a stunning catch with both hands, showcasing his exceptional reflexes and athleticism.
Saini, who has been struggling to regain his place in the Indian team, also impressed with his bowling, taking the wickets of India A captain Shubman Gill and Agarwal, helping to keep India A in check at 134 for two in their first innings.
India B, powered by a brilliant century from Musheer Khan (181 runs), set a target of 321 runs. At stumps, India A were still trailing by 187 runs with KL Rahul (23) and Riyan Parag (27) at the crease.
This match serves as a platform for players to showcase their skills and make a case for selection for the upcoming Test series against Bangladesh. Pant’s impressive comeback performance will surely have caught the attention of the selectors.
